The Power of Mentoring & Coaching.

Katarzyna Chini

There was a time when I found myself moving from one unhappy relationship to another - feeling stuck, disconnected, and uncertain about how to break the cycle. Sustaining meaningful relationships, and feeling engaged and truly happy in them, seemed like an illusion. There was a deep sense of unease, an inner restlessness, and a pattern of wanting to leave whenever I reached the two-year mark. I needed answers. I needed clarity. I needed someone to hold space for me as I untangled the web of emotions, thoughts, and beliefs that kept me trapped in this cycle. That’s when I made an intentional decision to seek mentorship and coaching. What unfolded over the years has been nothing short of transformative.

The Power of Being Seen and Heard

One of the most profound experiences in my personal development journey was meeting a mentor who has been by my side on and off for the last 10 years. Having a space where I could be truly heard and share my life story, struggles, and joys without judgment.

There were no quick fixes, no magic solutions. Instead, I was given something far more powerful: presence, energy, and guidance. Through deep conversations, moments of silence, and space to process my own emotions, I slowly started to untangle myself from the limiting beliefs I had unknowingly carried for years.

Uncomfortable Truths That Led to Growth

Coaching wasn’t always easy. Some sessions were deeply uncomfortable - being confronted with my own limiting beliefs, recognizing where I had trapped emotions, and realizing when I was playing small or falling into a victim mindset. But within that discomfort, I found growth.

I learned to differentiate between my thoughts and feelings. I discovered how to navigate my internal world without fear. I developed resilience and the ability to sit with my mind, even when it felt overwhelming. I embraced my emotions, giving them space rather than suppressing them.

Most importantly, I realized that coaching wasn’t about "fixing" me -it was about becoming more of who I truly am.

Mindset Shifts That Changed Everything

Through years of mentorship and coaching, my mindset evolved in ways I never expected:

  • I stopped looking for quick fixes and embraced the journey at my own pace.

  • I moved from self-doubt to self-trust, learning to listen to my intuition and gut feelings.

  • I let go of perfectionism and rigid timelines, understanding that growth doesn’t follow a linear path.

  • I built confidence - not by changing who I was, but by recognizing the strength that had been within me all along.

There were moments of frustration, doubt, and resistance. Times when I questioned whether any of this was working, but looking back, I see how every session, every insight, and every challenge was a step forward - shaping me into the person I am today.

Choosing the Right Mentor or Coach

Not every mentor or coach will be the right fit, and that’s okay. Finding the right guide is about energy, connection, and alignment. My advice?

  • Test the waters - have a conversation, see how you feel in their presence.

  • Check their qualifications, especially for specialist coaching (e.g., ADHD coaching).

  • Trust your intuition - if something feels off, it probably is. Keep searching until you find the right fit.

Misconceptions About Coaching and Mentorship

Many people believe coaching is about someone "fixing" you, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Here’s what I’ve learned:

❌ It’s not the mentor’s job to change you - you have to do the work.

❌ Coaching isn’t just for those with problems; it’s for anyone who wants to grow.

❌ It’s not always about goals and achievements; sometimes, it’s about becoming comfortable with who you already are.

Making the Most of Mentorship and Coaching

If you’re working with a coach or mentor, here’s how to get the most out of it:

Engage fully - show up, be present, and participate.

Take responsibility - growth happens when you apply what you learn.

Stay open-minded - sometimes the biggest lessons come from unexpected places.

The Impact in Three Words: Acceptance, Confidence, Energy

If I had to summarize the power of mentorship and coaching, it would come down to these three words:

Acceptance - of who I am, where I am, and the pace at which I grow.

Confidence - to show up as my true self, without masks or pretences.

Energy Sharing - the transformative power of being in the presence of someone who truly listens, understands, and holds space for you.

Final Thoughts: You Are Worth the Investment

If you’re hesitant about seeking mentorship or coaching, my message to you is this: It is worth it because YOU are worth it.

Investing in yourself is the most valuable investment you will ever make. Growth takes time. Change happens in small, subtle shifts. And while the journey isn’t always easy, the person you become along the way makes it all worthwhile.

So, if you’re considering working with a mentor or coach, explore, learn, ask questions, and most importantly - trust yourself. You are already on the path to something incredible.
